Lawrence H. Rubly, MBA | Chief Operating Officer | Austin University

Backed by nearly 45 years of professional experience, Lawrence H. Rubly, MBA has excelled in a career spanning education and business. Since 2018, he has served as the chief operating officer and vice president of Austin University in San Ramon, California. He previously served in the same capacity at American Tech and Management University, where he also served as the dean of the university’s business school between 2013 and 2018. In addition, Mr. Rubly taught as an adjunct professor at Oakton Community College from 1983 to 2020, where he notably launched the Global Business Studies Program at Oakton, serving as chair from 2007 to 2010. He also created the Certificate in Global Business to allow students worldwide to earn a U.S. credential entirely online within 12 months.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Rubly had as a senior international fellow and executive vice president for distance education for the World Engagement Institute from 2012 to 2018, as director of the Coyne College School of Allied Health from 2009 to 2011 and as Schaumburg campus president to the International Academy of Design and Technology from 2006 to 2007. Mr. Rubly is also backed by experience as a general manager for Keller’s North Suburban Center from 1991 to 1998. During the 1990s, he held several leadership positions at DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management, including regional manager and center director, director of distance learning business development and associate academic dean. Mr. Rubly also excelled as a managing partner of Tech Management Consulting, Ltd from 1983 and 1990 and as a contracts manager for Telemedia, Inc. throughout the 1970s.

Outside of his primary work endeavors, Mr. Rubly found further success as a board member for Kuwait Technical College from 2002 to 2020 and The Cradle, an Illinois-based adoption agency, for over 20 years. As a testament to his various accomplishments, he was the recipient of a National Leadership Award from E-College in the early 2000s but takes the most pride in his contributions to helping the Royal Saudi Naval Forces establish a new program for teaching English as a second language to naval officers as well as new recruits. He attributes his success to being focused, as well as his desire for innovation and the development of new grounds. He also credits the influence of his parents, who taught him a strong work ethic.

To prepare for his career, Mr. Rubly matriculated at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in German and linguistics in 1969 and 1974, respectively. He went on to attain a Master of Science in linguistics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1974 and a Master of Business Administration in marketing and finance from Southern Illinois University in 1984. In the coming years, Mr. Rubly looks forward to attaining the necessary resources to launch an Egypt-based academic program that offers technical career training, as well as teaches English as a second language.
